Aziz Ansari & Seth Rogen do advertising

Cracking promo for Aziz Ansari's upcoming special on Netflix. And even though it's a piss take I can't help loving the ideas these two generate.

Bruce Lee walks

No idea what this has to do with whisky, Johnny Walker or walking.

But it's got my childhood hero Bruce Lee in it.

Plus it's beautifully filmed.

Fashionable ice cream

I absolutely love this - fashionable icy poles for the fashion crowd.

Surprised I haven't seen paparazzi pics of fashionistas sucking on them.

Or maybe I don't read the sort of mags and blogs where pics like that appear.

Love to know if they taste as good as they look.

In the groove with Gillette Gel

There's nothing original about sampling sounds to create music but what the hell - this Michel Gondry directed clip for Gillette is just gorgeous. Especially the speed ball beats.

Can't beat a good book shop

I expect to see this campaign recognised for copywriting by the D&AD next year.

Beautifully crafted words. As you would expect for a bookstore.

By Leagas Delaney of London.

Advertising is a physical sport

Here's some great advice from Winston Binch - Chief Digital Officer at Deutsch LA.

"Don’t sit at your desk or in your office all day.

Advertising is a physical sport. Get up and talk to people.

Share a laugh or something personal, get a beer, go out to lunch, catch a movie, grab breakfast, play sports or ride bikes together.

I don’t care how smart you are. Don’t be a hard-working asshole.

Be a smart, hard worker who people want to be around.

You’ll get a lot further, faster."

Always loved this idea

I used to have this idea in my folio when I was first starting out.

People always commented how good it was to see someone using the medium to express an idea.

Over the course of my career I've been fortunate to work on many great brands including Adidas, Nike, Guinness, Budweiser and more.

But I never ever got to work on Coke.

So that concept was consigned to the bottom drawer where it's stayed for the best part of twenty years.

Great to see someone finally did it.

Gee I wish it was me!

What the!?

I just screen grabbed this ad off my phone.

Quite possibly the strangest ad I've seen this year.

By a very long way!

Jag or Audi?

I spotted this ad in the latest edition of GQ.

I'm not a big fan of analogies and metaphors in advertising so it doesn't really work for me.

It is very nicely done though.

Subtle too.

As it should be given it's a ad for a premium auto brand in an upmarket mens magazine.

Problem is (at least or me ) I think it would be a better ad for Jaguar rather than Audi.

What about you?

Take a risk

Who really cares?

So much coverage of the new Yahoo logo over the last week or so.

Not all of it good.

Biggest surprise for me was Marissa Meyer coming out and saying that she'd fired up Illustrator and worked on the logo herself.

And if that wasn't enough for the detractors the fact that they released a logo a day for a month really took the cake.

Obviously a great deal of thought has gone into the Apple logo. But no matter how you feel about the logo it's the products that make them successful.

Do Yahoo have great products?

To be honest I have no idea as I never use it.

Maybe that's what they should be looking at fixing rather than their goddamn logo.

False advertising

Whoever wrote this ad has obviously never tried to hail a cab during peak hour or late at night.

Permanence

This ad for BIC permanent markers is pretty funny.

A classic product demo.

Only problem is I very much doubt the ink would look that fresh after more than 40 years.

Sorry for being pedantic.

It's just that all the autographs on my St Kilda cap have long since faded away and they were only a few years old.

Still a nice idea though.

The last square of Milka

How lovely is this idea for Milka chocolate from French agency Buzzman?

I particularly like the insight of people savouring the last square of the block.

And the fact that they had to alter the production process to actually make it happen? Brilliant!

Love to meet the suits that sold it in.

A stray apostrophe

As if the cliched headline isn't bad enough. How 'bout that utterly unnecessary apostrophe? Grrr!

Fund a flight

This is a student project. Not a live job.

But I wish it was because it's a terrific idea.

Sadly people seem to be a bit too obsessed with their airmiles and frequent flyer points to possibly consider donating them to a worthy cause.

But maybe. Just maybe. Someone could get this idea up and running.

But who?

It's the little things

My obsession with the little things has caused me no end of grief during my career.

If you have to send stuff to print you can't be following the 'always in beta' mentality of the digital world.

When I worked on Ford the guys in the legal department often complimented me for adding wit and humour to the pointless terms and conditions of many of the projects I worked.

I do this because every thing a consumer touches offers a chance to touch the consumer.

That cute little update message on the Comm Bank app is a great case in point.

Could've been straightforward. Could've ignorable.

But somebody put in a teeny weeny bit of effort that I am sure has resulted in many a smile.

Pic pinched from Zac.

Time to create

I remember timesheets being introduced when I was working at JWT back in the mid 90's.

Of course we complained. That's what creatives do.

Our CD told us the reason for timesheets was to enable the agency to charge clients for the time we spent working on their brand.

As such we only had to record time spent doing client work.

So it was quite common to hand in a seemingly incomplete timesheet.

We bitched a lot back then but today we refer to it as the good old days.

Fantasy meets reality

When my son was much younger he wrote on a Fathers Day card that he thought I played football like Aaron Hammill.

Which if nothing else clearly demonstrates the undying love of a small child for their parents.

Sadly the reality was probably more like the blokes in the cracking campaign for Fantasy Football by Grey London.
