Dating is back

It's probably stating the obvious to say I love a bit of clever copywriting. So of course I love this new campaign out of the UK for dating app Bumble.

Sadly here in Melbs we're currently in our second Covid lockdown. Something I definitely don't love.

Come on Aussie

Somewhere out there in suburban Sydney (or Melbourne) is someone from the marketing department of Tourism Australia seething with jealousy that this idea was done by a small island country rather than the island/continent with more square miles of emptiness than anywhere else on earth.

#SafeSix

A group of my friends were complaining about people not properly social distancing in the supermarket queue yesterday. One of them posted this pic. Sure got a lotta likes!

Art Directed

Sometimes an ad doesn't need a headline. Sometimes it doesn't even need an idea. Sometimes simply beautiful art direction is all that's needed.

Working from home

This is fun. Perhaps a little long. But well worth a watch.

Rage again 'Rona

Face masks as you've probably noticed are all the rage these days. So if you're going to rage against the 'Rona why not do in total heavy metal style with a Lemmy from Motorhead mask. Brilliant don't you think?

The standout brush

I went to the hardware store last weekend as I needed a paintbrush to touch up a peeling window frame. Packaging is not considered that important when it comes to marketing paintbrushes. But I have to say this brand Poilu would definitely stand out in any crowded hardware store.

#wombstories

When I see an ad everyone is sharing I tend to think it's driven by hype. Sometimes it's worth putting aside personal perception and giving in to the hype. This is an absolute gem. Kudos to all involved.

Sinek & Godin together

If you were playing modern marketing bingo you'd be onto a winner with a podcast featuring Simon Sinek and Seth Godin. But if you put aside your prejudice for just a minute you'll find you're onto a winner anyway with this terrific chat. Click here to take a listen

Bloody French!

The sort of ad only the Brits can do. And boy do they do it well.

Vale Milton Glaser

Like many in the creative community I was saddened to hear of the passing of the great Milton Glaser. This video where he shares his things that matter in life is so beautiful. Please put aside a few minutes to take in what he has to say.

The good old days...

Every time I see an article in the trade press about Wunderman Thompson it makes me feel a little sad.

I began and built my career at JWT. The university of advertising we used to call it. Lots of great memories despite getting shafted and losing my job due to internal politics.

Many years later I returned to the WPP fold and became CD of Wunderman. Again I have many great memories of those times.

Two great agencies. Now rolled in to one. It's just not the same as two great agency brands.

No end in sight

This is the very first Nike ad. It was created 43 years ago by John Brown Partners. Fair to say it set the tone and template for every single thing the brand has done since. Why can't other brands be this confident in themselves?

The 15% Pledge

This is a nice initiative from beauty retailer Sephora.

Rather than empty platitudes and blacked out Insta posts they're putting their money where their moth is and pledging to have a minimum of 15% of the brands they stock come from Black owned businesses.

My daughter is a Floor Manager at Sephora and I can tell you she is as excited about this as I am.
