Mags are important
Print is a medium under threat.
The introduction of the likes of the iPad may help reinvent and rejuvenate magazines but not the actual medium of print.
Yet many of those predicting the death of print perhaps underestimate its power.
Stand in a supermarket queue and see how magazine covers draw people to pick them up and flick through them.
Nowhere is the power of the printed magazine better demonstrated than in this collection of covers looking at the Iraq war.

Magazine Newsstand Sales Fall 9% In 2009's 2nd Half

I know things are bad Jeffry, but what will we do when all printed material and all musical artifacts are gone. Forever.
I agree Stan, mags are an essential part of the mix. As a part time photographer and writer with a regular magazine column I'm an obvious fan. My 2ยข worth - they need to reconfigure the mix to be less 'news hot off the press' (internet will beat them) and more 'the thinking behind the headlines'. Deeper dare I say. Let's hope it's the crap mags that are dropping 9%.
Isn't it ironic that you had to show people the covers in a digital format.
aaawwwwww
I love print and I love magazines.
I find myself buying fewer but more expensive titles (which I keep for reference). The ol' value over volume thang.
Perhaps we'll see the medium of paper/print used in a more innovative way? Special inks/print processes/covers/gatefolds?
I had an awesome UK Vogue with a silhouette of Kate Moss on the cover (like a cameo) - black on gold - December 2000. Just beautiful & totally collectible. I wouldn't keep (bookmark) an image from the web in the same way. Maybe I'd stick it on my tumblr.
Depends what you value and what you're using magazines for.
And if you love magazines - you should check out Michael Bojkowski's Linefeed - a review of mags.

I'm nostalgic, just like I am for vinyl records. But life moves on.
Personally, I can't imagine reading large books and long articles on a screen. It sounds irritating. But I also can't imagine a world where printed books and magazines can be easily found 50-100 years from now.
