Fire the advertising dept

Robert Townsend was the CEO of Avis car rentals who appointed DDB to their advertising account back in the golden age of Bernbach.
He was also the man who signed off on one of the greatest campaigns of all time - We try harder.

That is a good advertising history lesson!
A lovely insight into how to get great work sold - work with the client.
And have them sign a charter - that way, you'll know where to look if mediocre work starts getting up.
And who's arse to kick.
Thanks for the lesson.
Great example of an ad that would work in any era. Well branded even with the absence of a logo.
We know, Stan. We know. ;-)
I think the more widely this is shared, the better.
Cheers Neil. ;-)
This is absolutely amazing. I knew half of the story but is so much better than anticipated.
What balls this guy had!
We always try harder. Now I have more direction.

More businesses than ever are deciding to advertise online in addition to continuing their traditional campaigns. Around five years ago, online advertising may have seemed like a bit of a foreign concept but the reality is that more people are using the net than ever before. This method of advertising allows businesses to easily target their target audience based on their interests.
