John Lewis and Twitter

Every year the much anticipated John Lewis Xmas ad sets Twitter alight.

Which is great. Unless your name is John Lewis.

So this year Twitter decided to do their own Xmas ad staring the real John Lewis.

What a fun idea.

Stair Free

Is this headline the greatest over-claim in the history of advertising?

Probably not.

But boy oh boy it sure as hell finds a non-existent benefit and makes the most of it.

Don't you think?

No more opening titles

One of the truly great masters of cinema passed away last week. Pablo Ferro.

A great loss in my eyes.

The man was not a movie maker per se. But his work made a lot of movies.

Like Dr Strangelove, Bullitt, Clockwork Orange, Midnight Cowboy and many more.

Spend a few minutes with this video compilation of some of his finest title work and you're sure to see a film you love.

Compare and Save

This appeared in my Twitter feed over the weekend.

What can I say. It make me chuckle.

Truth be told it's actually a brilliant piece of in-store advertising.

And yet there was quite probably no copywriter involved.

McTimeless

Hot on the heels of yesterday's KFC ad comes this utterly charming campaign for McDonalds via TBWA Paris.

KFC Christmas

Love love love this Christmas spot for KFC from Mother London.

Epic photography. Spaghetti western music. And an unexpected twist.

If only all Xmas ads could be as unexpected and cliché free as this one.

Upside down idea

Every once in a while an ad comes along that leaves me green with envy.

And that's exactly how I felt when this beauty from Taxi Toronto turned up in my Twitter feed the other day.

So darned obvious you have to wonder why nobody thought of it before.

But then that's what a big idea is. Isn't it?

Stan Lee hates car ads

I'm not a fan of super hero movies but dearly love comic books.

So it goes without saying I was saddened to hear of the passing of the legendary Stan Lee last week.

Outside of comics old Stan was never shy in coming forward with an opinion.

His thoughts on car advertising remind me of me. A lot.

Which may explain why I've often used Stan Lee a a pen name for myself.

Smoking kills

Back on deck after a very inspiring couple of weeks in Lisbon and Seville.

My flight home went via Dubai where I spotted the first tobacco ad I've seen in years at the airport.

Visually it's quite striking. The poster itself was backlit so it really stood out.

But for me what stood out the most was Smoking Kills.

Not the Camel brand.

Which is weird when you consider there are no less than 7 camels on the poster. Plus the brand name appears 9 times.

Mind you Dubai isn't exactly a hotbed of creativity. Now is it?

She's a woman

Hopefully in the not too distant future we won't need ad campaigns to teach men how to treat women.

I mean really. It's 2018 for goodness sake.

This is quite a good example I think.

Touches on a lot of the terminology used by Sheryl Sandberg in Lean In.

Men are assertive. Women are bossy. That type of thing.

Sadly I have no idea who was behind this campaign as I found it on Linkedin. Sorry.
