The Type Hunter

I came across The Type Hunter on Instagram the other day.

Loads of interesting old type and packaging so I went and checked out the website.

Turns out they're an Ohio based type and design firm who specialise in old school type.

Unlearn Speciesism

I've seen a few posters around of late for Be Fair Be Vegan.

They always catch the eye as they are very well art directed.

On the weekend I read that the activist organisation had had a public transport campaign banned at the last minute.

I'm not surprised to be honest as the ads are very in your face.

Not because they feature controversial imagery. Because they are visually striking.

What I don't like though is the campaign is built on the concept of Unlearn Speciesism.

Which is surely the most un-advertising advertising line I've ever seen. Ever.

Social Decay

Down the road from where I live is a Salvation Army store.

But in a past life the building was our local Blockbuster Video.

And if you peel away the Salvo's signage the Blockbuster branding is still there.

Andrei Lacatusu obviously has a soft spot for decaying businesses (and building signage) as he has created Social Decay.

It's a selection of decaying storefronts but the brands in question are internet brands.

Don't wet yourself

Sometimes I see an ad and I think to myself gee that's clever.

This is one of those occasions. It's by multi awarded Swedish agency Ã…kestam Holst.

Do a wee on the ad and if you're pregnant it'll reveal a discounted price on a baby cot.

In case you were wondering it uses the same tech as pregnancy testing kits.

So yes. Clever ad.

But seriously readers what is the point?

Who else would be shopping for a cot or crib other than expectant parents.

So whilst I admire the cleverness I can't help wondering what is the point?

Marijuana - It's Legal

I saw on the TV news the other day that marijuana had been legalised in California.

Very progressive of them. Obviously.

So I started wondering how long it would be before the first dope ads started appearing.

And now I have the answer.

Not long at all!

This campaign is for MedMen. One of the original suppliers of medicinal marijuana.

Hardly a breakthrough campaign. But then again maybe the client wasn't in the right state of mind to reject it.

Which is great. Don't get me wrong. But it makes it bloody hard for a brand to differentiate itself.

Enter the team behind Brisbane's Newstead Brewery.

Their on-truck banter is great.

But even better when the door slides open for deliveries.

A Rigid tool?

What better way to kick off 2018 than with a calendar.

Not this year's calendar. Obviously. A calendar from 1952.

Back then a tool company could call themselves Rigid and think nothing of having women 'interacting' with Rigid tools.

Even the idea of putting Rigid tools and women in the same sentence makes me shiver.

Boy oh boy things sure were different back in the day!
