Join the Goodness

A joint production for Babybel cheese between Havas Chicago and BETC Paris that was made in Thailand. An odd yet fun combination.

Consultancies and their puns

A good copywriter would never show a set of puns like this to their creative director. A good creative director would never show pun like this to their client.
And try as they may to become major players in the adland circus it will never happen creatively for the consultancies when they produce pathetic punny shit like this.

Old songs as older ads

These old school ads aren't ads.
They're classic song lyrics recreated as old ads by Todd Alcott.
Quite lovely don't you think?
You can click the pics to enlarge if you wish.

Francesca

Fascinating little film for Diesel by the team at Publicis Italy.
Really enjoyed the rework of Leadbelly's In The Pines on the soundtrack too.
And then they went and spoiled it all by making Francesca a nun at the end. I mean seriously.

Tim Tams for the UK

Last week Boris Johnson was waxing lyrically about how much Britain loves the good old Aussie Tim Tam.

To be honest I'm not sure I believe him, but anyway...

One day later the team at Publicis Sydney had this nifty response doing the rounds on social media.

Kudos to agency and client team for getting this up with a minimum of fuss.

Return Of The Pub

Sometimes I see an ad or content piece and want desperately to love it.

But don't.

Oh well. Time for a beer.

Serendipitous conversations

We've been emerging from isolation over the last few weeks here in Australia.
And whilst I've found it a little nerve racking being around people I'm starting to rediscover the joys of serendipity.
Zoom is great. Don't get me wrong.
But I find ideas happen far more often when you spend time with or bump into people.

Vespa meet Wonderbra

An art director friend of mine emailed me last night about the Vespa campaign I posted yesterday.

This Wonderbra poster was attached to the email.

It made me smile. Obviously.

Although as a Vespa owner I absolutely would not recommend resting my sandalled foot on the hot exhaust pipe.

Commitment To Harmony

Can't say as I'm a huge fan of the voiceover or the scriptwriting but this is a gorgeous ad to just sit and stare at.
Pharma ads are tough. But with a bit of effort they can look as lovely as this one by Publicis LifeBrands in London.

Say it loud

This is the Goodby Silverstein building in San Francisco.
Love the way they are using their office windows to deliver a powerful message of support.
Apparently they have done this in the past for other causes too.
Great to see an agency speaking out.

A glass or two

You know what...
It's bloody hard work being a parent. Especially with young kids during isolation.
So how 'bout the Nanny State stops making ads trying to guilt trip parents for killing a little pain at the end of day with a glass or two?

Let's Vespa!

I reckon it'd be pretty hard not to do a lovely poster for Vespa.

The brand is iconic and instantly associated with the romance of Italian life.

So kudos to BBH London for resisting the urge to do something overly clever and instead simply brief great illustrators.

Poster above is by Paul Thurlby

The one below is by Quentin Monge

And the third one was created by Agostino Iacurci

The war zone

There is no denying this is a seriously powerful piece of film.

But is it a great ad? I'm not so sure.

Those who oppose Trump will very obviously nod their heads in agreement throughout.

But for those who support him this ad reinforces why they support him.

I'm not giving an opinion on US politics. It's way too complex.

But what's needed are ads the get Trump supporters to change their minds.

And films like this sadly are not going to do that. No matter how well intentioned.

Just one more

Walkies!

See how nice it is when advertising treats people with respect and doesn't feel the need to tell rather than show. Kudos to BBDO NYC for this absolute charmer.

All stuck inside

Cute launch campaign that hardly anyone will see for wine in a can brand HUN by the London office of TBWA.

KFC is back!

This is brilliant work from Mother London. Brand love writ large. Seriously how many other brands could pull off something like this?

Plastic problems

Hard to believe it's June already. Time passes slowly yet quickly in isolation.

With all the focus on Covid-19 at the moment the environment and climate change seems to have been put on the backburner.

This thought provoking outdoor campaign from Germany puts it back on the agenda.

It's for the German environmental agency by Havas.

Obviously it's a bit tricky to read the copy so click on the pics and enlarge them.

Requiem for a pie

Football. We took it for granted.

Live gigs, cinema and theatre too.

I miss them all so much that a gambling ad is tugging at my heartstrings.

Considerate brands

Copy is a little tricky to read on this pic so feel free to double click to get a better look.

What I love about this is seeing a brand acting with consideration of consumers.

Yes they want to sell you a car.

Yes they will help you to finance that purchase.

But...

By letting people know that they understand that jobs are not as secure at the moment I believe they are strengthening their appeal.

I mean who wouldn't love a brand that actually cares about its (potential) customers.

A lot of brands say they are. But few actually deliver.
