Show me the money!

I'm sure you've heard by now about the leaking of the Twitter financials.
Well if you haven't the company lost somewhere in the region of $26 million last year.
Hardly a surprise if you ask me.
I just can't see a way for them to make money.
I really can't.
And given there are around 100,000,000 active users on Twitter that is definitely something of a problem.

It may have been the result of poor business decisions or internal issues, but the absence of advertising on Twitter undeniably plays a large role in it despite the fact that the social networking site helps countless users build their brand.
The challenge here is that Twitter is now perceived as an essential public service. And given that it has even helped to saved lives (eg, Japan tsunami victims trapped on roof), one can argue that it is just that. So let's all tweet "save twitter".
