Ready Set Go

If there's one thing I love it's an idea that makes me wish I'd thought of it.

This lateral idea for a traffic light is definitely one of those.

It's by Thanva Tivawong.

The hour glass has been around pretty much since the beginning of time.

Yet it makes a very 21st century addition to the traffic light.

Pretty clever don't you think?

In order for this to be considered clever thinking, it would have to not be a total disregard for everything that Industrial Design stands for.

If you take away the glitter, it's just another nice looking project that will never ever be adopted by any city, for countless reasons. One such reason would be drivers suffering of daltonism.

I just came back from Thailand where the street lights have a countdown clock until they turn green. 45 secs, 44, 43 ... bizarre

@lulian - Point taken, but I still think it's a claver idea and I enjoy the coming together of old and new.

@Daniel - I saw traffic lights like that in Bali. Kinda helpful when the roads are so gridlocked.

I'd look at that and think, 'sweet i have 3 seconds to run the light'

Reminds me of some old traffic lights that were apparently used in Australia between the 40s and the 70s.

Apparently lights like these were used in intersections such as Camberwell Junction - it's pretty hard to imagine how that worked when you visit now.
