See that blank pad?
Every day for as long as I can remember I've sat down in front of one just like it in the hope that I will have something to put on it.
It is the scariest part of my job.
And it is also the most exciting.
Just how ideas happen is one of life's great mysteries.
Sure there are techniques and so called methodologies for having ideas.
But when you're under pressure with a deadline looming that blank pad has a tendency to sit on your desk and taunt you.
It dares you to doodle. Screams at you to scribble.
Sadly way too many people in the advertising/marketing/comms business do not appreciate just how daunting a task it is to overcome that blank page and start writing/drawing/thinking on it.
Which is a pity.
Because if they did perhaps they'd treat those precious ideas a little better.

Seems to me it could be seen as an “Ideas Pad”
Looks like you missed a great opp to grab the name iPad!
One of our younger suits had just finished an internal review of our creative and was saying how much fun our job was. That she'd much rather be doing what we do than writing contact reports and timelines.
Than Dave handed her an A4 Bleedproof pad, turned it to the first blank page and said "Fill this. Every day."
She practically turned white at the prospect.
It's so easy to comment on, critique, edit and change what's already been done.
Completely different to create it yourself.

The skills are different, but I'm not sure one is 'easier' than the other. Lots of creatives would most likely 'turn white at the prospect' of having to do a suit's job every day.
A detailed (and sensitive) critique that helps to sharpen an idea can be just as difficult to achieve as that initial idea iself is - and is certainly equally important.
Ideas should not be battered indiscriminately, but they shouldn't be treated with kid gloves either. Open dialogue is what's required.
