Show me the money!

If you're trying to kickstart your career as a creative please set aside 3 minutes of your time to watch this video.

It may well be the best career move you make.

Why?

Because it may make you think twice about working on something on spec.

And why is that important to a person at the beginning of their career?

Because once you start giving away your intellectual property it will get harder and harder for you to demand that people pay you what you and your ideas are worth.

Free may be the most popular word in the English language but it isn't the smartest.

After all why would anyone want to pay you when they know that you're happy to do it for nothing?

Loved this quote:

"It's the amateurs who make it tough for the professionals"

He's not being passionate about his craft... He is rightly getting worked up about the hipocracy we have to put up with these douchebags

PAY DAY! Cross my palms with silver you mofos!

A great clip with a really, really good point. At uni we were told NOT to work for free for all of ....but a lot of us still do (or for not very much) with the promise of a good reference and actual printed/commercial/real work for the folio.

You need critical mass - everyone needs to say 'no' for this to work.....

As a Hoax Speaker, MC and Corporate Comedian, I really relate to how this guy feels. And, yes, I've fallen for the trap. (And am still waiting for all the follow-on work.)

The ones I really hate are the Not-For-Profits (not the registered charities, who I help out at times) such as the professional or industry associations who try to screw you with the NFP line, when the audience itself is full of individuals each earning six figures.

You can find me for FREE on Google, but then the meter starts running!
