Ghostbusters goes digital

In a strange and unexpected move, Sony has just released the first ever movie on a USB stick.

Quite why they chose the 25 year old Ghostbusters to do this is anyone's guess.

The Ghostbusters stick retails for around $70. Which ain't cheap.

In fact I could easily purchase a dvd of the movie and a USB stick and still have change from $50.

According to Sony the movie can also be downloaded from the stick to your PC or Mac.

However because it is encoded with some kind of copyright protection you need to have the USB stick inserted in your computer to actually watch the movie.

I love the idea of this thing but somehow I can't see them selling that many.

Not at that price with those DRM issues.

USB sticks are given away like Pens these days, $70 for a movie! or $12.95 at JB

though It could be cool for other movies, Light up USB litesaber? mini USB ultraviolet light (murder mystery) or a USB shaped like a key that gets you into a secrete screening

"Hey Bob- we need to come up with something catchy to capatalize on the younger market. You know something HIP to help with this USB project...ideas?"

Bob turns. Wearing his 1985 Members Only jacket and top sider shoes. He pauses and thinks for a minute. Takes out his velcro OP wallet and looks at a slip of paper. And says..

"How about this movie I heard about 'Ghost Busters' I hear it is pretty good."

Don't you think a piece of portable 80's is worth $70 Stan????

Yeah. Me neither.

For some reason, I've been on a Ghostbusters kick lately. I watched part one from 2 A.M. to 4 A.M. on Monday night/Tuesday morning. I watched part two from 1 A.M. to 3 A.M. Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Both for free on Hulu.

Ps - Now I hear that Harold Ramis wants to do a part three. I will pay $12 to see that in the theatre on a huge screen.
