Painting the town

Every now and again I have an idea that I put to one side because I think it's probably been done before.

Then I flick through a few award annuals and do a bit of a web trawl to see if someone has actually done it before.

The weird thing is, quite a few genuinely big ideas feel like this.

Ideas that are so obvious you cannot believe that nobody else has stumbled upon them.

This outdoor extravaganza for Coop's Paints is one of those kind of ideas.

With all the money that Dulux have spent around the world over the last fifty years surely someone must have had an idea like this.

Guess not.

Thanx to Leigh for the pic

That's just the Sony ad that a paint company has picked up.

I read on another blog that this is not an ad for paint. It's an ad for an insurance company whose line is "life comes at you fast" Their ad is the one on the far right. Coop's paints is made up.

Cool idea regardless though

If the ad is for an insurance company I almost (I would need to look again) consider it problematic advertising. Simply because the connection isn't strong. As a PAINT ad (high level connection) it would be fabulous.

I'll add to my comment. Haven't you ever been really impressed by an ad but then a week later (sometimes a moment later) forgotten what the product was or the company? I have. I've been engaged by the aesthetic styled advertising but totally lost the connection to the object being marketed. That isn't clever advertising even though it may be clever art.
