Beware of hitchhiking toddlers

Australia has got to be one of the most over-governed countries in the world.

You can't do this. You can't do that.

The nanny state, I believe, is the terminology for this.

Well I don't think there's a nanny anywhere who wouldn't love the Hyundai 'toddler' ad.

It's sooo cute.

But not cute enough for the Advertising Standards Bureau who've gone and banned it!

And why? Because "it sent the wrong message to preschoolers about driving cars."

The Bureau were also not happy that the toddlers were wearing seatbelts, instead of approved child restraints.

I'm struggling to wrap up this post because I am, quite literally, lost for words.

That ad's been running in new Zealand for ages. Bloody Aussies have no sense of humour.

Got to love The Age, that whole page was a spread of 'nanny state' activities.

Credit where it's due though, this Sunday's Age featured an article on cigarette advertising with none other than Beyonce's tour image - only days after you made the point.

And then Jim Schembri jumped on the bandwagon with an op-ed piece. Could he give me any more reason to have him?

I make the same observation about the over-regulation of Australia everytime I travel overseas. It's like boiling a frog in water and no-one will realise until it's too late and we're all living by the rules of the Hillsong Church.

OK, that's better. Got that off my chest.

what shits me about this over-regulation is that it should have been banned 'cos it's a lame ad, not 'cos it sent the wrong message to toddlers. it sent the wrong message, full stop.

i'm looking forward to the day the OFTC writes in the space under 'reason' for banning an ad: shit ad.

Amazing. The ad is bloody cute. Whether it will work is another matter but it's enjoyable watching, let it run!

Fun spot. Unfortunately you remember the babies more than the brand. Balance is the key.

Did they also shoot it down because it's not safe for babies to surf?
