Ordinary people

What I've always loved about Brit advertising is the use of regional voices. Those accents can make any topic more interesting. Even smart meters.

Rust free

Well here's an interesting idea. Knife brand Tyrolit has created a billboard that rusts. The rust process has been sped up by regularly applying salt water to the billboard surface. Is rust resistance a reason to buy a knife? I don't think so. But a nice idea none the less.

Talking to dogs

Can't say as I'm a fan of the art direction (or lack thereof) but these ads talking to owners by talking to dogs are utterly charming. Wish I knew who did them so I could hook them up with a young art director I know who's looking for work.

Reducing Methaaaane

I don't know which is more random - Burger King changing the diet of the cows used for their burger patties or getting kids to sing about it country and western style.

Seeds in paper

I know there's no such thing as a new idea, but when are creatives going to realise that creating direct mail postcards using paper impregnated with seeds has been done before. Not once or twice. Literally hundreds of times. Yes it's cute. Yes little kids love planting the paper. But seriously. No more.

Bad travel posters

It's been a while since I've travelled and looks like it could be quite some time before I get to again.

One of the things that always made me laugh when planning and booking travel were some of the inane comments and reviews people would leave on booking.com and Trip Advisor.

Designer Amber Share has taken selection of stupid reviews of American national parks and turned them into beautiful travel posters.

Kinda sweet don't you think?

John and Jane

Sometimes all an ad needs to do is make you smile. Like this very cute spot from Geico.

Bright side of the mask

How beautiful are these Corona inspired artworks by Tatsuya Tanaka? I can't help thinking a creative or two out there in adland is already pondering how to turn these into ads. Fingers crossed it doesn't happen.

Says it all

As an independent consultant (posh name for freelancer) I generally work from home most of the time. But after months of lockdown and isolation even I'm starting to think like the guy in this cartoon.

Billie Eilish says...

Have to say I really like this new Billie Eilish spot for Deutsche Telecom. Not 100% sure who DT's audience is but I reckon it'll grow rapidly once this spot takes off.

What the!?

This poster turned up on Twitter the other day. It's for a 'dating site' called Badoo. I'm all for provocative advertising and getting noticed but all I have to say about this is what the!?

RU OK + Kit Kat

RU-OK Day has been growing steadily in Australia over the last few years. It's a highly important mental health initiative. Teaming up with Kit Kat to put their message on pack is going to give their awareness a massive boost. Kudos to everyone involved in putting this brand collab together.

Pick Two

This sign used to hang in the production studio at JWT when I worked there as a young copywriter. It is as relevant now as it was back then. Possibly even more so.

Stumbled on this old Heinz ad on Pinterest. Beautiful isn't it? What I love is it is such a strong confident brand that the ad doesn't need a logo. Doubt they'd get away with that these days.

Out of lockdown

Sadly here in Melbourne we've been hit by a second wave of Covid and the city is back in Lockdown. Which makes this new 'out of lockdown' spot from Heineken not only funny but also really depressing. One day people. One day...

You can't stop us

Saw this last Friday. Had to share on twitter. Been generating comments and conversation ever since. Just brilliant.
