Glitter?

Hat tip to Mona who alerted me to the importance of kerning when using glitter type...

The good old days?

It's almost impossible to read the copy on this ad but there really is no need as the headline says it all.

Or rather it doesn't. Not nowadays.

Click here to learn how DDT most definitely isn't good for you or meeee!

Lion Man roars

Every once in a while I see an ad that leaves me wondering how on earth they came up with an idea like this. This ad by Mother is one of those ads. Beautiful but baffling.

Some more Smart ads

Love the detail in the illustrations for this campaign by BBDO Düsseldorf. Yes I know it's bloody hard to appreciate at this size so click on the pics for a bigger better look.

Digger deeper for insights

Far too many creative briefs these days seem to be lacking in a genuine insight. The type of thinking that totally changes the way you approach the brief. If you get those type of briefs share this video with your account people. Pronto.

Ads to block ads

News outlets depend on advertising to survive.

As Russel Howcroft so eloquently puts it; news is simply there to fill the space between the ads.

Which is why I cannot believe that ads for Ad Blocking are running on The Age.

I mean seriously. Talk about biting the hand...

Clever Gary Hustwit

Terrific podcast chat with filmmaker Gary Hustwit director of the design doco trilogy Helvetica, Objectified and Urbanised. He also mentions his upcoming film about the great Dieter Rams. So download this to your phone and listen on your way to/from work.

World's largest unboxing

Unboxing is one of those weird internet phenomenons that people from 20 years ago would find unbelievable if someone from the future was able to describe it to them.

But none the less they are popular. As are the top notch web films made for Volvo Trucks by Forsman & Bodenfors.

So you have to wonder why it took so long for someone to come up with the idea of unboxing an enormous truck.

But now they have and I have to say it's wonderful.

Yes wonderful. Who'd have thunk it!?

Kentucky Fried Phone

KFC is celebrating its 30th year in China with the release of its own mobile phone.

Which has to be the weirdest brand extension I've seen in a very long time.

I have no idea where you'd buy one of these fowl phones. But apparently KFC China has a presence on the AliBaba website.

Life is messy

Somebody had a helluva lot of fun styling and art-directing these ads.

Clever. Simple. Fun.

What more can you ask for from a campaign for plastic bags?

Brilliant stuff from Adam & Eve DDB.

Meat on the mind

I love that organisations like PETA stand up for animals.

But the way they go about it sometimes leaves a lot to be desired.

This campaign is really nice though.

Well photographed and humorous. Although I'm not sure whether or not 'meat' is a wordplay.

Not sure the intercourse related insight is gonna make one iota of difference.

But nice looking campaign none the less.

Spotify goes outdoor

I have no idea who created these Spotify ads that have been appearing around Melbourne but I gotta say I like 'em.

Not all of them are 100% successful.

But they're generally pretty good.

Spike Lee talks Lids

Really nice content film for US hat retailer Lids. Of course what raises it above the average is Spike Lee. His laidback approach is always endearing. And of course he's famous for his caps especially the Brooklyn cycling cap he wore in his debut film She's Gotta Have It.

Twitter does great outdoor

Love this campaign for Twitter which won the Outdoor Grand Prix at Cannes this year.

These images are so strong I reckon it would be nigh on impossible not to look at them.

I just wish I'd seen some of these 'moments' posters here in Australia.

Like the Gondry Apple film I posted the other day this campaign was created in-house.

Which makes me like it even more I think!

Where's Mr Chips?

Obviously there was no cobra. But what a fun way to generate interest (especially in social) for the BetaBrand Store in San Francisco.

Detour by Gondry

Utterly charming short film for Apple created by Michel Gondry on a goddamn iPhone7.

Yes an iPhone7.

So many of us in adland agonise over cameras, lenses etc. And Gondry goes and shoots something lovely on a phone.

And if shooting on a phone isn't enough of a two fingers to ad agencies, the concept came from Apple's internal agency.

The times they are a changin' my friends.
