When I first heard about the Sainsbury 'Food Dancing' ad I thought it was going to be similart to what I think is th definitive food campaign - Lurpack.
W+K London are responsible for both and they couldn't be more difference.
In the early part of my career my art director and I created a box of chocolate phones as a promo for Ericsson.
The promo packs were supposed to be dispatched at the end of winter but for reasons I can't recall the client put the mail out on hold for three months.
Which meant they were sent out during summertime. In Australia. Doh!
I was reminded of this job when I heard about the posters created for the 5th birthday of chocolate maker Videri.
They're made out of chocolate. Top quality chocolate too.
Fingers crossed they fared better during delivery than some of mine did!
It's never been easy getting a job in the creative department of an agency.
But young art director August Laustsen was finding it harder than most.
In fact he never heard back from any of the Swedish agencies he approached.
So he decided to think like a client. Or more correctly look, act and think like a client.
He sent out the following letter and get several responses from it:
My name is August and I'm the marketing director of EMERIH. We're a creative consulting company with our main office in Copenhagen. After big success in Denmark, we're now planning on expanding to the Swedish market and are looking for a new creative agency in Sweden. We do work for a wide range of clients from small non-profit organizations to giants like Coca-Cola. We really admire the work you've done for [insert] and would like to talk about the possibilities of a future cooperation. Since a large part of our business model is based on creativity, it's important that the creative department have a look at our website before we take it any further. You'll find it here: emerih.co Best regards,
August Laustsen

EMERIH
In case you were wondering EMERIH is 'hire me' spelt backwards!
Beautiful art direction. Razor sharp editing. Great use of music. Plus old school VHS tracking lines in the closing moments. Seriously what's not to like?
This film has gone totally viral while I've been away on holiday in New Zealand.
And is it any wonder?
Beautifully made and a genuine tugger of heartstrings. I doubt Adidas could ever make something as genuinely emotive as this piece by fourth year film student Eugen Merher.
Watching the old guy hold back the nurse as the hero runs free reminded me a lot of the closing scene from Cuckoos Nest where the Chief breaks the window with the water fountain.
What a great ad to kick start 2017 on BrandDNA. If only it was an actual ad...
