School Success v Life Success

I went to a talk on personal branding a while ago.

One of the speakers was a recruiter.

He said that in school we all try to fit in. But in life we want to stand out.

Funny that...

Build strong teeth

This landed in my inbox last night.

No idea who created it.

But if you're a young person looking to pursue a career in an agency creative department I sugest you file it away for future reference.

Why?

Because it is a brilliant example of how to do a product demonstration.

The first flight

Don't think I've ever seen an ad for an airport before. But I have to say I certainly like this one.

Something fishy

So nice to see humour and lightness of touch used in public service advertising.

Kudos to agency Hjaltel Stahl of Copenhagen.

A political joke

The world thinks Trump is a joke. But we sure don't think it's funny.

Hopefully the people of the US of A think so too.

Only time will tell I guess...

Honesty in Advertising

Tuesday, 19 July 2016

Let's do lunch

What with all the shootings, crazy politicians and simmering racial tension, it's easy to think there's nothing good to say about America at the moment.

Then an ad like this one from Anomaly comes along.

Beautiful stories. Beautifully told.

Gotta love dogs

I can't for the life of me work out what exactly these ads by Brazilian agency Campinas are advertising.

But who the hell cares. They feature cute dogs!

Bud Light + Equal Pay

Is this what happens when you let a couple of frat boys write a beer ad around a very important social issue?

I think it is. And I think it's a dud.

Seriously Amy. What were you thinking?

Oh dear...

This turned up in my inbox last night.

I think it's an ad for ten pin bowling.

I mean I hope it's an ad for ten pin bowling!

King or Clown?

I very much doubt this is legit. But it certainly made me smile.

No car required

Auto brands have been using 3D rendered cars in advertising for a few years now. Mostly in print and brochures. But the Blackbird could soon see no cars whatsoever needed to make car ads.

"In testing"

This classified ad sums up the whole debacle nicely.

Of course nobody seems to be taking Cannes to task.

But that's a whole other story I guess.

The upside down can

Here's an idea so obvious you wonder why nobody thought of it before.

An upside down can.

"But why?" I hear you asking.

Orangina is one of those fruit drinks with pulp in it.

And as you know these sort of drinks require a mild shake before drinking.

So Orangina labelled their cans the wrong way around. So that when you turn them right way up to drink the pulp is mixed through the drink.

Genius I tells ya!

Apparently it wasn't Orangina's idea though. I was created by their agency BETC in Paris.

What a welcome

This turned up from a very proud father in my Linkedin feed over the weekend.

What a wonderful way to welcome new starters to your agency.

And I'm not just saying that because the HardHat crew are friends of mine.

I've also shared it with the People Team where I work.

So I may even end up 'stealing' the idea!

Rams - The Documentary

Currently seeking backers on Kickstarter is the new film from Gary Hustwit creator of the acclaimed Helvetica doc.

Dieter Rams is the master of zen like simplicity in design.

A huge inspiration on Steve Jobs and Jon Ives.

It's great to see his legacy captured in celluloid. Or should I say digital?

Click here to find out more and back the film.
