Always in a meeting

I've sat in a lot of meetings over the course of my career.

Can't imagine how many weeks/months of my working life that timed would ad up to.

So you can image the wry smile this classic ad for The Economist put on my face when I saw it the other day.

Thank you Don & Co

My wife and I finally got around to the last episode of Mad Men tonight.

Gave me a tingle seeing and hearing the legendary Hillsong ad for Coca Cola.

That ad was always on the telly when I was a kid.

And even though I hadn't seen it for who knows how many years I still remembered every single word.

Now that my friends is the power of advertising.

Picking the brain

If there's one person I'd love to meet it's Maria Popova from Brain Pickings.

If she's even half as interesting as the stuff she shares on her blog I reckon she'd be a brilliant conversationalist.

Don't believe me? Check out this podcast interview. Great listening for your morning commute.

Kombi last wishes

Kombi has been gone for a while but these farewell films keep on coming.

No complaints from me though as I love them.

The films that is.

Oh. And Kombis too!

Why bother turning up?

Took this lock stock 'n barrel from a post on Medium by Dom Goodrum of Percolate Design.

It really resonated with me.

Especially now I've managed to transition my team from the one I inherited to the one I want.

Reinvention of normal

Put aside seven minutes in your day to sit down with a cup of coffee and watch this lovely little film about artist/designer/inventor Dominic Wilcox. It is practically guaranteed to get you creating.

Art or advertising

Snapped these two pics at a food related art show at the Triennale design museum in Milan last week.

Stupidly I forgot to note down the name of the artist.

I reckon if these were presented to the head of marketing at Mars they'd sign off on them straightaway.

Yes they're artworks. And yes one of them is in Russian.

But geez they're great posters. Don't you think?

Shoes or sexy?

I snapped this pic in the Milan airport while on holiday.

It's one of a couple of Bata posters hanging prominently throughout what is a truly magnificent beast of a railway station.

As a kid I grew up with Bata school shoes. I'm sure you did too.

So when I saw a Bata store in Italy I couldn't stop myself from taking a look inside.

They sell shoes. Not bad ones either.

Which is why I found this Bata ad so bewildering.

The girls have great legs. And they look like they're having a fun time.

But this is supposed to be an ad for shoes?

Shoes you can hardly see!

I saw dozens of these female focussed ads in Italy. All of them 'fleshy' and a little borrowed interest.

It's like the eighties never ended!
